JOB SUMMARY 

The Safety Specialist is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the safety within the Southern California Region to help implement and support EHS Initiatives on a consistent basis, with 350+ techs. 

Responsibilities

  • PPE Management 
  • Review and update New Tech Safety Onboarding 
  • Local support for SM for Incident Reporting and Follow-up 
  • Identify potential risks by job type through analysis and unannounced site visits and ride-alongs to ensure proper safety in the field 
  • Fleet Management (ensuring vehicles are road-worthy and not a cause for safety risks)  
  • Reporting: 
  • Velocity Jobsite Hazard evaluation inspections 
  • Accident Incident Reports 
  • Safety Audits and Inspections 
  • Overseeing and implementing onsite OSHA training, including: 
  • Forklift 
  • Aerial lift 
  • Fall protection 
  • Implement policies that comply with all governmental regulations, including local, state, and federal OSHA rules. 
  • Perform accident investigations and analysis to develop corrective action for preventing future occurrences. 
  • Ability to travel 30% in the Region. 

Qualifications

Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the job's essential functions can be performed. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety-related field or (5) years of safety experience, at least (2) of which were in a managerial capacity.   
  • CPR/First Aid instructor. 
  • Safety Certifications such as ASSE Safety management are preferred. 
  • Skill in written and oral communication. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret Federal, State, and Local laws and ordinances governing safety in the workplace. 
  • Knowledge of and skill in supervisory and managerial techniques and principles. 
  • Skill in using computers and safety-related software. 
  • Ability to analyze and resolve irregular events. 
  • Skill in planning and organizing. 
  • Thorough knowledge of proper industrial safety practices and required safety training programs.
